Wall Mounted Pergolas

A wall mounted pergola is an outdoor structure made from different materials such as wood or metal and is fixed directly to an exterior wall of your property and supported by front posts. Also known as a lean-to pergola, its purpose is to create a covered outdoor space that naturally extends your home into the garden and supports climbing plants to create a beautiful garden.

A wall-mounted pergola is attached to your home, which means it needs fewer support posts and is great for patios and seating areas next to your property. A freestanding pergola is completely independent and can be positioned anywhere in the garden. It requires more support posts and is great for larger gardens or climbing plants.

Each kit is delivered ready for assembly, with redwood components precut and precision-machined. Only basic tools are required.

Most attached pergolas fall under permitted development and do not require planning permission. However, this depends on the size of the structure, its location and whether your property is listed or within a conservation area. If you're unsure, it's worth checking with your local planning authority.

A pergola can be installed close to a boundary, but height restrictions apply under UK permitted development rules. It must be under 2.5m if within 2m of the boundary, and under 3m if further away, but check local rules.

The maximum height depends on the distance from the boundary line. Structures within 2 metres of the boundary are limited to 2.5m, while those further away can reach up to 3m. Pergolas with pitched or A-frame roofs can reach 4m. But always check local planning rules for your area, as these can vary, especially in conservation areas or for listed buildings. 

Our pergolas can be installed on a range of surfaces, including paving, concrete and well-prepared ground. The most important requirement is a level, stable base to ensure both the pergola and decking can remain secure and stable long-term. 

When installing onto soil or grass, appropriate post supports or concrete footings are usually required. For wall-mounted pergolas, the wall used should always be made of brick or other stone, not wood or any other material.
